Insects-June Themed Challenge

Today I have the pleasure of announcing our June theme challege!  The challenge is to create something (it could be beads, jewelry, art, etc…) inspired by the subject!  You may use any medium you’d like!

Since spring has sprung, I decided to go with the theme of “insects” as there’s so much activity now that we have thawed out!

Moths at the butterfly bush

Insects are pretty amazing creatures.  They play an important and complex role in the environment.  They act as pollinators, consume carrion, keep other pest populations in control and act as a food source for other animals.  And let’s face it, while some of them are pretty scary looking (spiders…Eeeeeee!) many of them just look really cool.  It’s hard to not be inspired by them!

You could even focus on just one part of an insects life cycle if you prefer.  Look at how amazing these cecropia moth caterpillars are!

And then they turn into these beautiful moths!

Spiders, beetles, bees, hornets, leaf bugs, flies…  The list goes on and on.  Choose from ANY of them!

You don’t have to make an accurate representation of your insect either.  For example, my whimsical porcelain bumble guy is clearly NOT a realistic bee but he’s inspired by one.  Go where your muse takes you!

And if you’d like to use art beads in your piece, there are plenty to choose from!
