The Art of… Airports?

I really do love to travel….
So this week- my scheduled post coincided with a trip to Austin to see family. I tend to sketch on the plane, and love the freedom of nothing to do for a few hours. So Ibe thought led to another… and I thought of art and inspiration IN  the airport! I checked the Philadelphia airport website- being familiar with their art exhibition program and found. Few things I was excited to see… These colorful and vibrant paintings spanned a long concourse walkway. I loved the shot with the fellow traveler for scale! This high contrast ceramic mural was lovely. I enjoyed it up close and at a distance- and I think my interaction with it caused others to take note. The felt exhibit I took a trek to another concourse to see- and I was so glad! When you are through security and have over an hour to boarding? I explored…Upon landing in Austin- I visit these ceramic tiles as if they are old friends. They showcase iconic Austin landmarks: the Capitol, the Congress St bats, the music industry, and blue bonnets!! ( I will research the artist. These are installed in the restrooms, no wall text per se.)

Gorgeous aerial images of the Texas capitol.

And the guitars!

What sights and sounds inspire you when you travel?

I must apologize for the lack of artists links. I have included the names and info in picture form and will edit to add links asap. Sadly my vacation was marred by a spot of the flu and this post is the casualty. Stay tuned!

Jenny Davies-Reazor is a mixed media artist inspired by myth, folklore and the natural world. A proud Jack-of-all-trades, she concentrated in metals and painting in art school, turned to clay during her teaching career, and is truly happiest when mixing materials in unusual ways. From clay to resin, paper to polymer... Since leaving her ceramics classroom, Jenny is always in the studio: fabricating jewelry, creating ceramic shrines and decorative tiles, and teaching in a variety of mediums. I had too much luggage with me at the Philadelphia airport when I was there and missed seeing these. So Thank you for the virtual tour 🙂
